Case IH 75 – Transmission Controller (TRANS): Engine speed from Inst Controller does not match the speed signal from the alternator.

Code 75 triggers when the RPM value calculated from the alternator's signal drastically differs from the RPM value reported by the engine controller.

   Check System Voltage: Test the battery and alternator output at idle and at 1,500 RPM. The output should be at least 13.8 volts. A single low-voltage event can cause sensors to misread and trigger this mismatch.

   Monitor RPM Signals: Use the instrumentation display or a dealer diagnostic tool to compare the filtered display RPM (alternator signal) against the Engine Controller RPM to identify which signal is dropping out or spiking.

   Inspect Alternator Wiring: Check the signal wire on the alternator (W-terminal or AC tap) for loose connections, broken wires, or corrosion between the alternator and the Instrumentation Controller.

   Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for Engine Controller codes (e.g., ENG 115 or ENG 121) which indicate the engine speed sensor is the actual failing component.

   Resolve Voltage Issues

   If the alternator is outputting below 13.8V, or if the internal voltage regulator/rectifier is failing and sending an erratic AC frequency signal, replace the alternator.

   Repair Harness/Connections

   If the alternator is charging correctly but the RPM signal is dead, trace the speed signal wire from the alternator to the Inst Controller. Repair any pin fretting, insulation damage, or rodent damage found in the harness. Clean the grounds.

   Replace Engine Speed Sensor

   If your diagnostic tool shows the alternator RPM is steady but the Engine Controller RPM is dropping out (and you have accompanying ENG codes), locate the engine speed sensor on the bell housing or timing cover. Disconnect the harness, remove the retaining bolt, and install a new speed sensor.

   Clear Codes

   After repairs, cycle the key and use the diagnostic menu or service tool to clear the TRANS 75 stored code. Run the machine at various RPMs to ensure the code does not return.
