8002

Case IH 8002 – ATC (Armrest Tractor Controller) or Front PTO Controller: Front PTO cab switch open

Issue description

This code indicates that the controller has detected an open circuit in the Front PTO cab switch circuit. The system is unable to sense the switch's position due to a break in the electrical connection, a disconnected plug, or an internal failure of the switch itself.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
  • Case IH Magnum 220, 250, 280 (AFS Connect / CVT / PST models)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Front PTO switch on the armrest/dash for physical damage or sticking.

  2. Access the back of the switch and check the electrical connector for backed-out pins, corrosion, or a disconnected plug.

  3. Using a multimeter, test the switch for continuity across its terminals when toggled. If the switch does not close the circuit when engaged, it has failed internally.

  4. If the switch tests good, check the wiring harness between the switch and the Armrest Tractor Controller (ATC) for a broken wire (open circuit).

  5. Look for related codes that might indicate a broader issue, such as 8003 (Front PTO cab switch short) or 8010 (12V supply is low / possible blown fuse).

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the armrest control console or dash panel housing the Front PTO switch.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the Front PTO switch.

  4. Replace or Repair

If the switch failed the continuity test, pop the old switch out of its mounting bezel and snap the new OEM switch into place. If the switch was functional but the wiring was broken, locate the break in the harness and repair it using appropriate automotive-grade wire and heat-shrink connectors.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness to the switch, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reinstall the armrest console or dash panel.

  6. Test

Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes. Engage the Front PTO to verify the code does not return and the PTO operates correctly.
