Case IH 8005 – TCU (Transmission Control Unit): Front PTO solenoid circuit is shorted to B+ (battery voltage) when the Front PTO is in the off state
Issue description
The control module is detecting 12V power on the solenoid control circuit even though the operator has not engaged the Front PTO. This is typically caused by a wiring harness chafing against a live power wire, a failed solenoid coil, or an internal fault within the control module keeping the circuit energized.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the TCU to the Front PTO solenoid for pinched wires, melted insulation, or rubbing against a 12V power source.
Disconnect the Front PTO solenoid connector and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the power and control circuits.
With the key ON and the Front PTO switch OFF, use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the solenoid connector. If 12V is present, there is a short to power in the harness or the controller is faulty.
Measure the resistance of the Front PTO solenoid coil. If the resistance reads as a dead short, the solenoid has failed internally.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental short circuits during repair.
Locate the Solenoid
Locate the Front PTO solenoid valve assembly on the front PTO housing/valve block.
Isolate the Fault
If the diagnostic tests revealed a wiring short, trace the harness back to the controller, locate the damaged section, and splice/heat-shrink the repaired wires.
Replace the Solenoid (if faulty)
Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/bolt.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical connector to the new solenoid.
Test
Reconnect the battery. Start the tractor and ensure the Front PTO is OFF. Check if the 8005 code changes to inactive or can be cleared. Engage and disengage the Front PTO to verify proper operation.
