8033

Case IH 8033 – Electronic System / Front Hitch & PTO sub-system: Front PTO cab normally closed switch – open circuit

Issue description

This code indicates that the electronic control system has detected an open circuit (a break in the electrical path) on the normally closed (NC) side of the Front Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement switch located in the cab.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • Maxxum
  • Farmall
  • Case IH Puma Series (140, 150, 165, 180, 185, 195, 200, 210, 220, 225 CVX, 240)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series (110, 115, 120, 125)
  • Case IH Magnum Series (235 through 340)
  • Case IH Steiger / Quadtrac Series (370, 420, 450, 470, 500)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Front PTO switch in the cab for physical damage, sticking, or debris.

  2. Access the rear of the switch and inspect the wiring harness connector for loose pins, disconnected plugs, or corrosion.

  3. Test the normally closed (NC) contacts of the switch using a multimeter. When the switch is in the OFF position, there should be continuity. If the circuit reads open, the switch has failed internally.

  4. If the switch tests good, check the wiring between the switch and the cab control module for breaks or chafing.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the armrest console or dash panel housing the Front PTO switch.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector pin, repair the wiring harness and re-pin the connector as necessary.

  5. Replace Switch (If Applicable)

If the switch failed the continuity test, pop the old switch out of its mounting bezel and snap the new OEM switch into place.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness to the switch and reinstall the console panel.

  7. Clear and Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and verify that fault code 8033 has cleared. Test the Front PTO engagement to ensure proper operation.
