Case IH 82 – TRANS (Transmission Controller): Creep Clutch is not calibrated
Issue description
The transmission control module has detected that the calibration values for the creeper clutch are missing, out of range, or have been cleared from the system's memory. This often happens after a software reset, battery replacement, or if service work has been performed on the transmission valves, master clutch, or transmission controller.

Check the cause
Check for related fault codes, specifically code 113 (Creeper clutch solenoid or wiring failed open/shorted), which will cause calibration to fail
Verify transmission fluid temperature is warmed to more than 60°C (140°F)
Ensure the engine can maintain a steady speed of 1200 RPM or higher
Visually inspect the creeper clutch solenoid and wiring harness on the transmission control valve body for physical damage from debris
Repair steps
Warm transmission oil
Start the tractor and warm the transmission oil to at least 60°C (140°F).
Prepare tractor for calibration
Turn off the air conditioning and apply the park brake.
Enter calibration mode
Enter the transmission calibration mode. On many models, this is done by holding the Upshift rocker switch while starting the engine, which will display 'CAL' on the instrument cluster. Alternatively, navigate to the 'H1' (Transmission clutch spring pressure calibration) menu in the diagnostic display.
Set engine speed
Set the engine speed to 1200 RPM (± 100 RPM).
Set levers
Place the range lever in neutral and the shuttle lever in forward.
Begin calibration
Press and hold the Upshift button to begin calibrating the clutches sequentially. The display will show a flashing number that scrolls up as the clutch fills.
Monitor calibration progress
When the processor detects a 50 RPM drop in engine speed, the calibration for that specific clutch stops, and the number will turn solid.
Cycle through clutch packs
Follow the on-screen prompts (using the upshift/downshift switches) to cycle through all clutch packs (C1, C2, C3, C4, and the Creep Clutch).
Save calibration
Once the display shows 'END' or the calibration values are saved, turn the engine off to store the calibration in the non-volatile memory.
Replace solenoid if calibration fails
If the calibration fails on the creep clutch step, the creeper solenoid valve is likely sticking or failing electrically and must be replaced.
