Case IH 82 – Transmission ECM / Transmission Controller / Armrest Controller / EHR / Hydraulic Remote Valve Controller / TRANS: Multiple Conditions: Transmission Pressure Switch Short, Differential Lock Solenoid Fault, Valve Spool Not In Neutral, or Creep Clutch Uncalibrated
Issue description
Depending on the machine model and ECU, this code indicates a transmission hydraulic oil pressure switch short, a differential lock solenoid failed open or short circuit, a valve spool not in neutral when switched on, or a creep clutch that is not calibrated.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- MX Maxxum
- TN Series Tractors
- MX Magnum Tractors (P.I.N. Z6RZ01001 and above)
- TG Series Tractors (P.I.N. Z6RW01001 and above)
- MXM Series
- TM Series
- Various Case IH models equipped with a creep transmission
Check the cause
TN Series: Inspect the wiring harness for a circuit short to 12 volts between ECM connector 2, pin 20 and the Transmission Pressure Switch.
TN Series: Check for a short to 5V across the switch terminals.
TN Series: Check for a short to 5V or 12V between the Transmission Pressure switch and ECM connector 2, pin 31.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Inspect the differential lock solenoid connector for corrosion or loose pins.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Measure the resistance of the solenoid coil to verify it is not internally open or shorted.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Trace the wiring from the solenoid back to the controller to check for chafing or breaks.
MXM/TM Series: Visually inspect the affected hydraulic remote valve for physical binding or debris.
MXM/TM Series: Check the mechanical linkage (if applicable) to ensure it is not holding the spool out of neutral.
Creep Transmission Models: Ensure transmission fluid is at the correct level and at operating temperature before attempting calibration.
Repair steps
TN Series: Disconnect battery and locate components
Disconnect the battery and locate the Transmission Pressure Switch and ECM connector 2.
TN Series: Test continuity and voltage
Use a multimeter to test the continuity and voltage of the pins mentioned above.
TN Series: Repair or replace wiring
If a short is found in the wiring, repair or replace the damaged section of the harness.
TN Series: Replace pressure switch
If the wiring tests good, the internal contacts of the pressure switch are likely shorted. Replace the switch.
TN Series: Clear code and test
Clear the code and test the transmission operation.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Unplug solenoid
Unplug the differential lock solenoid.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Repair wiring
Repair any damaged wiring in the harness.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Unbolt solenoid
If the solenoid coil fails the resistance test, unbolt the solenoid from the differential valve block.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Install new solenoid
Install the new solenoid and torque to OEM specifications.
MX Magnum/TG Series: Reconnect and verify
Reconnect the harness and verify differential lock operation.
MXM/TM Series: Relieve hydraulic pressure
Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system.
MXM/TM Series: Disconnect actuator
Disconnect the electronic actuator from the affected remote valve.
MXM/TM Series: Manually move spool
Attempt to manually move the spool. If it is seized or sticky, the valve must be removed.
MXM/TM Series: Rebuild or replace valve
Disassemble, clean, and rebuild the spool valve, or replace the entire remote valve slice if scoring is present.
MXM/TM Series: Reinstall and recalibrate
Reinstall, bleed the hydraulic system, and recalibrate the remote valves.
Creep Transmission: Warm up tractor
Warm the tractor up until the transmission fluid reaches the specified calibration temperature.
Creep Transmission: Enter calibration menu
Enter the transmission calibration menu via the tractor's monitor or a connected service tool.
Creep Transmission: Execute calibration
Follow the on-screen prompts to execute the Creep Clutch calibration.
Creep Transmission: Inspect clutch pack
If calibration fails repeatedly, mechanical inspection of the creep clutch pack is required.
