Case IH 82 – Transmission ECM: TRANSMISSION HYDRAULIC OIL PRESSURE SWITCH SHORT TO 5 OR 12 VOLTS

The Electronic Control Module (ECM) has detected a short to 5 or 12 volts between the Transmission Pressure Switch and ECM connector 2, pin 31.

   Inspect Wiring: Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the transmission pressure switch for chafing, melting, or bare wires.

   Check Pin 20 Circuit: Test for a circuit short to 12 volts between ECM connector 2, pin 20 and the Transmission Pressure Switch.

   Check Switch Terminals: Test for a short to 5 volts across the transmission pressure switch terminals.

   Check Pin 31 Circuit: Test for a short to 5 or 12 volts between the Transmission Pressure switch and ECM connector 2, pin 31.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and engage the parking brake.

   Locate the Switch

   Locate the transmission hydraulic oil pressure switch on the transmission control housing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the pressure switch. Inspect the connector for oil intrusion or damaged pins.

   Remove the Switch

   Unscrew and remove the faulty transmission pressure switch from the transmission housing. Have a shop rag ready to catch any residual hydraulic oil.

   Install New Switch

   Thread the new OEM transmission pressure switch into the housing. (If the switch does not have pre-applied thread sealant, apply a hydraulic-safe thread sealant).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new switch.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Turn the key on, clear the fault codes via the tractor's diagnostic display or an Electronic Service Tool, and start the engine. Verify that the transmission engages properly and that Fault Code 82 does not return.
