Case IH 86 – Instrumentation Controller (ICU): Wheel Slip Signal is failed in the Instrumentation Controller
Issue description
The controller is no longer receiving a valid wheel slip signal. When this signal fails, automated functions relying on slip control (like draft control or MFD auto-engagement) may be disabled.

Check the cause
Check the instrumentation display for other codes (e.g., PTO 54060 or HITCH 3010). If absent, the issue is highly likely isolated to the radar sensor.
Inspect the radar sensor face (mounted under the cab/chassis) for mud, crop debris, or ice that could block the signal.
Check the radar power supply by disconnecting the harness connector (e.g., C068) and measuring voltage at the power supply pin (Pin C) with the key ON. It should read approximately 5 VDC.
Inspect the wiring harness between the radar sensor and the Instrumentation Controller for open circuits, chafing, shorts to ground, or shorts to a 12V power source.
Repair steps
Prepare the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and remove the key.
Locate the radar sensor
Locate the radar sensor assembly, typically mounted on a bracket underneath the right or left side of the cab/chassis facing downward.
Disconnect the electrical connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the radar sensor.
Remove the mounting bolts
Remove the mounting bolts securing the radar sensor to its bracket. Take note of the mounting angle, as the sensor must point at the ground at a specific angle to read correctly.
Install the new radar sensor
Install the new radar sensor onto the bracket and tighten the mounting hardware.
Reconnect the electrical harness
Reconnect the electrical harness connector.
Clear fault codes
Turn the key ON and clear the fault codes from the instrumentation display.
Perform calibration
A radar/ground speed calibration must be performed via the AFS Pro display or instrumentation panel menu. This usually involves driving the tractor over a known measured distance (e.g., 400 feet) so the controller can learn the new sensor's pulse rate.
