Issue description

The "05" Failure Mode Identifier (FMI) universally designates a "Current Below Normal or Open Circuit" condition. The control module has detected that the electrical current flowing to the right-side cab suspension valve is lower than the minimum expected threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, which is usually caused by a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded electrical connector, or a burnt-out solenoid coil on the valve itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate the right cab suspension valve (typically mounted near the right rear cab shock/air spring) and inspect the wiring harness for obvious signs of chafing, pinching, or rodent damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical connector at the right cab suspension valve. Check for pushed-out pins, moisture, or green corrosion.

  3. Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the valve's solenoid coil. If the reading shows infinite resistance (OL), the coil is internally broken/open.

  4. Harness Continuity Test: If the coil tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the valve connector back to the Cab Suspension Module (CSM) pins.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition. If you need to remove the valve mechanically, ensure the cab is properly supported and relieve any pneumatic or hydraulic pressure in the cab suspension system to prevent the cab from dropping.

  2. Wiring Repair

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector, splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the wire using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors.

  3. Valve/Coil Replacement

    If the solenoid coil is dead, disconnect the electrical harness. Depending on the valve design, you may be able to unbolt and slide the coil off the valve stem (Part # 51576248) without opening the hydraulic/pneumatic lines. If the entire valve must be replaced, unthread the hydraulic/air fittings, remove the mounting bolts, and install the new valve.

  4. Reassembly & Calibration

    Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the ignition on and use the AFS Pro monitor or a diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or ESI[truck]) to clear the CSM fault codes. Cycle the cab suspension to ensure the code does not return and the right side levels properly.
