Case IH 9003 – Electronic Draft Control (EDC) module or Front Hitch Controller: Front hitch fender up switch error

Triggered when the electronic control system detects an anomaly in the circuit for the external 'Up' (raise) switch located on the front fender. The underlying condition is typically a short circuit, an open circuit, or the switch being physically or electrically stuck in the closed (pressed) position for an extended period.

   Inspect the front hitch fender 'Up' switch for physical damage, packed dirt, or debris that might cause the button to stick in the depressed position.

   Disconnect the switch and inspect the wiring harness connector for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness between the fender switch and the controller for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to 12V.

   Test the switch itself for proper operation. It should only have continuity when actively pressed. Continuous continuity indicates the switch has failed internally.

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental short circuits or unexpected hitch movement.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty 'Up' switch on the front hitch fender control panel.

   Removal

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch. Remove the retaining clips, locking rings, or screws securing the switch to the fender housing, and pull the switch out.

   Installation

   Insert the new switch into the fender housing and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnection

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the connector pins to prevent moisture ingress, then plug the wiring harness back into the switch.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key start switch ON. Use the tractor's diagnostic menu (e.g., navigating to the 'HC' menu on Puma/Magnum models via the dot matrix display) or a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored fault codes.

   Testing

   Test the front hitch operation using the newly installed fender switch to ensure it raises correctly and no new codes are generated.
