Case IH 9004 – IC (Instrument Cluster): Memory Error - Triple Redundant - Hour Meter Location 1 Corrupt
Issue description
The data stored in the first memory location (Location 1) for the machine's operating hours has become corrupted or failed an EEPROM checksum validation.
Applies to these machines
10 machines- skid steer
- Steiger
- Puma
- Maxxum
- Magnum
- T6000 series
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Loader Backhoes
- 580 Super N
Check the cause
Verify if the error is active/permanent or intermittent
Check system voltage (battery health, alternator output, and ensure battery cables are tight and free of corrosion) as voltage spikes or drops can cause memory corruption
Check cluster grounds to verify that the ground connections to the Instrument Cluster are secure
Attempt to clear the fault code using the Electronic Service Tool (EST), cycle the key power, and run the machine to see if the code returns
Repair steps
Evaluate fault status
If the code was caused by a temporary voltage drop and clears successfully without returning, no further repair is necessary.
Determine if replacement is needed
If the error is permanent or repeats often, the internal EEPROM has failed.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the machine's battery.
Remove trim panels
Remove the trim panels surrounding the dashboard/instrument cluster.
Disconnect wiring
Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the back of the Instrument Cluster.
Remove cluster
Remove the mounting hardware and extract the faulty cluster.
Install new cluster
Install the new Instrument Cluster and reconnect the wiring harnesses.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the battery.
Configure new cluster
Configure the new Instrument Cluster to the machine using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to sync the CAN-bus and retrieve the correct machine hours.
Parts you might need
(1)Instrument Cluster (IC) / Dashboard Display
Look up the specific Instrument Cluster part number for your exact machine model and serial number in the CNH Parts Catalog. Do not install a used instrument cluster from another machine.
