Case IH 9005 – Suspended Front Axle / Front Hitch Management system (CCM): Front hitch fender common switch error
Issue description
Indicates an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or stuck button) in the external fender-mounted switch used to manually raise or lower the front hitch. It can also be triggered by a configuration mismatch if the tractor's software is programmed to expect a front hitch fender switch, but the switch is physically missing, removed, or disconnected.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- Puma Series
- Magnum / MX Series
- Steiger Series
- Maxxum Series
Check the cause
Verify Software Configuration (H Menu): Connect diagnostic tool 380000843 to the diagnostic connector and turn the key switch ON to access the 'H Menu'. Navigate to Channel 81 (X957 / CN4B, input 13). A value of 0 means not fitted, 12000 means fitted. Toggle to 'no' if not actually fitted.
Inspect Wiring and Connectors: If the switch is fitted, inspect the wiring harness leading to the front fender switch for pinched wires, corrosion in the connector, or moisture ingress.
Test the Switch: Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. Ensure the switch is not mechanically stuck in the pressed position due to dirt or debris.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, engage the parking brake, and ensure all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the circuits before beginning work.
Resolve Configuration
If the diagnostic check revealed the switch was incorrectly enabled in the software, simply save the 'not fitted' (no) configuration in the EEPROM and exit the H Menu.
Remove the Faulty Switch
If the switch is physically broken or failed the continuity test, disconnect the wiring harness connector from the back of the front hitch fender switch.
Install the New Switch
Pop the old switch out of the fender housing and snap the replacement switch into place. Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the weather seal on the connector is intact.
Clear the Fault Code
Turn the key ON and use the H Menu or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the stored 9005 fault code from the EEPROM.
Test Operation
Test the manual operation of the front hitch using the newly installed fender switch to verify the repair.
