Case IH 9009 – CCM (Chassis Control Module) or APH (Auxiliary Power Hitch / Front Hitch Management): Front hitch external / inching switches error (when Front Hitch Management is enabled)

The controller has detected an implausible signal, open circuit, or short circuit (to ground or battery voltage) in the external fender-mounted switches used to raise or lower the front hitch. It can also trigger if both the 'raise' and 'lower' buttons are depressed simultaneously or if a switch is physically stuck.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the external front hitch fender switches for physical damage, sticking buttons, or moisture/dirt ingress.

   Harness & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness running from the fender switches to the CCM/APH controller. Look for chafed wires causing a short to ground or short to Vbat (battery voltage), and check for disconnected or corroded plugs.

   Diagnostic Menu Test: Enter the tractor's onboard diagnostic 'H' menu (HH Menu) using the dot matrix display (or diagnostic tool 380000843). Navigate to the switch input monitoring section to observe the live state of the front hitch fender switches. Verify if the controller sees the switch as permanently 'depressed' (stuck closed) or 'released' (open circuit) when you physically toggle it.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Clean and Test

   Disconnect the external fender switch connector. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity when pressed and infinite resistance when released.

   Repair Wiring

   If the switch tests fine, trace the wiring harness back to the CCM/APH module. Repair any broken wires or re-pin any corroded connectors.

   Replace the Switch

   If the switch fails the continuity test (e.g., it is internally shorted or completely dead), unbolt the switch assembly from the fender housing and install a new OEM replacement switch. Apply dielectric grease to the new connector to prevent future moisture ingress.

   Clear Fault Codes

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Enter the diagnostic menu and navigate to the H8 menu (or HC menu) to clear stored error codes and reset the controller.

   Verify Operation

   Test the front hitch using the external fender switches to ensure smooth operation and verify that code 9009 does not return.
