9009 - UCM

Case IH 9009 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch external / inching switches error (when Front Hitch management is enabled)

Issue description

This condition is triggered when the controller detects an invalid signal, an inconsistency, or a short/open circuit from the external fender-mounted switches used to raise or lower the front hitch. It can also be triggered if the system detects that two conflicting switches (e.g., raise and lower) are being pressed at the exact same time, or if there is a switch disagreement during engine cranking.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series (165, 175, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX/CVT)
  • Case IH Magnum Series (290, 315)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series (130 CVT)

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the external front hitch control switches (located on the front frame, weight carrier, or front fenders) for physical damage, dirt/moisture ingress, or buttons physically stuck in the depressed position.

  2. Enter the tractor's diagnostic display menu to monitor live switch inputs (channel d77 for external common switch, d78 for external raise switch, and d79 for external lower switch).

  3. Perform a 'wiggle test' on the wiring harness leading to the front hitch switches while monitoring the diagnostic display or listening for the system's audible tone to identify intermittent shorts or breaks.

  4. Check for operator error: Ensure the key start switch was not turned to the 'crank' position while the shuttle lever was in neutral and the clutch pedal was down, which can cause a false switch disagreement error.

  5. Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper open/closed continuity when pressed and released.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the faulty front hitch external control switch on the front weight carrier or front fender.

  3. Removal

Detach the front hitch external control switch assembly by removing its mounting hardware.

  4. Disconnect

Carefully unplug the wiring harness connector from the switch. Inspect the harness-side pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals. Clean or repair the harness connector if necessary.

  5. Replacement

Connect the wiring harness to the new OEM front hitch external control switch and secure the switch back into its mounting location.

  6. Reconnect Power

    Reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Clear Codes

Enter the tractor's 'H' menu using the diagnostic connector/instrument cluster sequence. Use the HC menu to clear all stored error codes from the UCM's EEPROM, or perform an H8 operation to clear stored calibrations and error codes (note: H8 will require recalibration of the EDC system).

  8. Verify

Test the front hitch raise and lower functions using the newly installed external switches to confirm the repair.
