9011

Case IH 9011 – ARM (Armrest Controller / Armrest Control Module): Controller Memory Error - Loss of Hitch Position Command Calibration

Issue description

Code 9011 indicates a memory error within the controller where the calibration values for the hitch position command potentiometer have been lost or corrupted. This prevents the controller from knowing the correct commanded position for the rear hitch.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • TG Series
  • Steiger
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Check Battery Voltage: Memory loss in the Armrest Controller is frequently caused by low system voltage. Check for a preceding code 8011. Ensure the batteries are fully charged and the alternator is functioning correctly.

  2. Check Potentiometer Output: Verify that the hitch position command potentiometer is outputting a smooth, variable resistance/voltage (typically a 0–5V or 8V 5000 Ohm signal) without dead spots.

  3. Inspect Wiring: Check the 3-pin connector and harness running from the hitch position potentiometer to the Armrest Controller for corrosion, shorts, or open circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Voltage Issues

If battery voltage is low, charge or replace the batteries and clean the battery terminals. A stable power supply is required before the controller can retain memory.

  2. Recalibrate the Hitch

Enter the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu via the instrument cluster and perform the Hitch Position Command Calibration.

  3. Monitor for Secondary Codes

If the calibration fails, the system will likely throw code 9021 ("Hitch position command potentiometer calibration results not acceptable").

  4. Replace the Potentiometer

If the calibration is rejected (Code 9021) and the wiring is intact, replace the hitch position potentiometer.

  5. Replace the Armrest Controller

If the potentiometer is functioning properly but the ARM controller continually loses its memory/checksums after a key cycle, the internal memory of the Armrest Control Module has failed and the module must be replaced.
