Case IH 9012 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Controller Memory Error - Loss of Aux Remote Lever Calibrations

Issue description

Fault code 9012 indicates that the controller has lost the stored calibration values for the Auxiliary (Aux) Remote Levers (the SCV control levers). This is a memory error where the controller can no longer reference the physical limits and neutral positions of the hydraulic remote levers, preventing proper operation of the auxiliary hydraulics.

Applies to these machines

  • STX Steiger
  • Magnum Series: 215, 245, 255, 275, 305, 335
  • MX Magnum Series: MX210, MX215, MX230, MX245, MX255, MX275, MX285, MX305
  • Steiger Series: 280, 330, 335, 380, 385, 430, 435, 480, 485, 530, 535
  • STX Steiger Series: STX280, STX330, STX380, STX430, STX480, STX530
  • T8000 Series

Check the cause

  1. Check Armrest Controller Power/Ground: Turn the key switch to the ON/ACC position. Inspect the LED lamp on the armrest controller circuit board (visible through the connector opening at the rear of the armrest). Flashing LED: Controller is powered and functioning. Solid LED: No software is installed in the controller. LED Off: No power or ground. Check fuse #38 and verify battery power.

  2. Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Disconnect the main connector (e.g., C137 or J2) to the armrest controller. Inspect the Tractor Data Bus (TDB) wires, power wires, and ground wires. Gently pull on the wires to ensure terminals are fully seated and not broken.

  3. Test Reference Voltage: Check the power supply from the armrest controller to the remote panel (e.g., at pin 1 of J2). It should read approximately 8 volts. If the voltage is incorrect, the armrest controller has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Clean and Reconnect

Clean the pins on the armrest controller connectors and firmly reconnect the SCV panel to the armrest controller.

  2. Recalibrate the Levers

Using the tractor's instrument cluster display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), enter the calibration menu and perform the Aux Remote Lever calibration procedure.

  3. Verify Repair

Cycle the key switch and check if fault code ARM 9012 returns.

  4. Replace Components (if calibration fails)

If the fault code is recorded again immediately after calibration, or if the controller fails the 8-volt reference test, the armrest controller (or the integrated SCV control panel) must be replaced.

  5. Program New Controller

If replacing the armrest controller, the new module will likely come blank. You must use the Case IH EST to download and install the correct tractor software, followed by performing the "ARM SET MENU" calibration.
