Case IH 9012 – Armrest Controller (ARM / ARU): Controller Memory Error - Loss of Aux Remote Lever Calibrations

Issue description

The control module has experienced a memory error and lost the saved calibration values for the Auxiliary Remote Levers. Without these calibration values, the controller cannot accurately determine the physical position of the levers, which can lead to disabled hydraulic functions or erratic implement behavior.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • Steiger
  • STX
  • Puma
  • TG
  • T8
  • T9

Check the cause

  1. Check System Voltage: Check the battery, alternator, and cab power relays for low voltage during startup or operation, and look for concurrent voltage codes (e.g., ARM 8011).

  2. Check for Internal Controller Faults: Look for other active codes that indicate a hardware failure within the armrest, such as ARM 10091.

  3. Inspect the Physical Levers: Ensure the auxiliary remote levers are not physically sticking, binding, or failing to return to the center (neutral) position.

Repair steps

  1. Recalibrate the Aux Remote Levers

Perform the Auxiliary Remote Lever calibration procedure through the tractor's in-cab display (e.g., Pro 600 / Pro 700 monitor) under the 'Calibration' menu, or by using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  2. Follow On-Screen Prompts

Move each remote lever through its full range of motion (full forward, full rearward, and float) and allow it to return to neutral so the controller can learn the potentiometer voltage limits.

  3. Clear Codes and Test

Once calibration is complete, clear the fault codes, cycle the ignition key, and test the hydraulic remotes for proper operation.

  4. Update Software

If the calibration does not hold, or if the levers are overly sensitive/creeping, flash the Armrest Controller with the latest software to widen the neutral deadband.

  5. Replace the Controller

If the software update and recalibration fail to keep the code away, the Armrest Controller's internal memory (EEPROM) has likely failed, and the module must be replaced.
