Case IH 9014 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Controller Memory Error - Loss of MFD switch Configuration
Issue description
The controller has lost the saved configuration data regarding the Mechanical Front Drive (MFD) switch, or the software detects an invalid configuration state for the MFD system.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- MX Magnum Series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
- TG Series
- Steiger / STX Series (STX 280, STX 325, STX 530)
Check the cause
Verify Tractor Options: Confirm whether MFD is actually a valid option on the specific tractor. If the tractor is 2WD, the controller configuration may have been corrupted or incorrectly programmed.
Check Power and Ground: Verify the power and ground connections to the armrest controller (specifically checking connections to the battery). Intermittent power supply or a bad ground can cause the controller to drop its memory.
Verify Software: Ensure the correct software version is installed in the instrumentation/armrest controller.
Test the Switch: Check the MFD switch itself for physical damage or internal shorts that could be sending illogical states to the controller.
Repair steps
Inspect Wiring
Clean and tighten the battery connections and the main harness connections (e.g., connector C137) to the Armrest Controller to ensure stable voltage.
Reconfigure/Calibrate the Controller
Enter the tractor's diagnostic/calibration mode (typically accessed via the A-post display by holding the PROG key while turning the ignition key to the ON position). Navigate to the ARM section. Perform the controller configuration procedure to re-register the MFD switch to the system.
Save Configuration
Turn the key off and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting the tractor. This allows the controller time to write the new configuration to its non-volatile memory.
Evaluate Controller Memory
If the calibration does not save, or if the 9014 code returns immediately after a power cycle, the Armrest Controller has a memory defect and must be replaced.
Replace Switch (if necessary)
If the controller holds memory but the MFD switch fails to operate or throws secondary switch faults (like ARM 1069 - MFD switch failed), replace the MFD switch.

Armrest Controller (ARU)
OEM part numbers for the ARU are highly specific to the tractor's serial number, transmission type, and hydraulic options. Consult a dealer parts catalog with the exact VIN/Serial.
