Case IH 9015 – ARM (Armrest Controller): Controller Memory Error - Loss of Trans switches Configuration

Issue description

The controller has lost the saved configuration data in its non-volatile memory regarding the transmission switches, causing transmission control from the armrest to be disabled or behave erratically.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • MX180
  • MX210
  • MX220
  • MX230
  • MX240
  • MX255
  • MX270
  • MX285
  • STX275
  • STX325
  • STX375
  • STX425
  • STX440
  • STX450
  • STX500
  • STX530
  • TG210
  • TG230
  • TG255
  • TG285

Check the cause

  1. Verify system voltage by checking the battery and charging system. Low voltage during cranking or operation can cause controllers to temporarily drop memory (look for accompanying low voltage codes like ARM 8011).

  2. Check for accompanying internal faults such as code ARM 10091 (Armrest Controller failure - 5 V regulator failure). A failing 5V regulator indicates physical board damage preventing memory retention.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness connections between the Armrest Controller and the CAN Data Bus to ensure they are secure and free of corrosion.

Repair steps

  1. Enter Calibration Mode

Access the tractor's diagnostic display/instrument cluster to enter the Armrest Controller Calibration menu.

  2. Reconfigure the Controller

Navigate to the Controller Configuration or Transmission Menu within the Armrest setup.

  3. Set the Switches

Follow the on-screen prompts to re-register the transmission switches (and any other lost parameters, as memory loss often affects hitch and throttle calibrations simultaneously).

  4. Save and Cycle Power

Exit the calibration menu to save the settings. Turn the key switch OFF, wait 30 seconds for the controllers to power down completely, and turn the key back ON.

  5. Verify Repair

If the code clears and the transmission operates normally, the memory glitch was resolved. If fault code 9015 returns immediately upon key-on, the EEPROM/memory chip inside the Armrest Controller has permanently failed and the controller must be replaced.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Armrest Controller (ARU)

    84165726R

CNH Remanufactured. Controllers are highly specific to the tractor's transmission and hydraulic options. Must match PIN/Serial Number. Requires complete calibration upon installation.

  • Armrest Controller (ARU)

    399285A1

Earlier revision. Controllers are highly specific to the tractor's transmission and hydraulic options. Must match PIN/Serial Number. Requires complete calibration upon installation.
