Issue description

This code indicates that the control module has detected that the electrical values (voltage or resistance) coming from the hitch drop rate adjustment knob/potentiometer fall outside the acceptable programmed parameters during operation or calibration. This typically points to a failed potentiometer, a wiring issue (short/open circuit), or a mechanical failure of the knob itself.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hitch drop rate adjustment knob on the right-hand armrest console for physical damage, binding, or looseness.

  2. Access the armrest internals and check the wiring harness connecting the potentiometer to the armrest circuit board for loose pins, corrosion, or chafed wires.

  3. Test the potentiometer's resistance or voltage sweep (typically operates on a 5V reference circuit or rated at 10,000 ohms). The signal should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking.

  4. Attempt to run the tractor's electronic hitch/armrest calibration procedure via the diagnostic display to see if the controller can relearn the potentiometer's limits before replacing parts.

Repair steps

  1. Prep the Machine

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the hitch to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Access the Armrest Console

    Carefully disassemble the right-hand armrest control console to access the internal Electronic Hitch Control (EHR) panel and circuit boards.

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

    Locate the drop rate potentiometer. Disconnect its electrical connector. Remove the knob from the top of the console, then remove the retaining nut or screws holding the potentiometer in place. (Note: On some newer or specific models, the potentiometers are soldered directly to the armrest Printed Circuit Board (PCB). If this is the case, the entire board or EDC panel must be removed).

  4. Install the New Part

    Install the replacement potentiometer (or PCB) into the console housing. Secure the retaining hardware and reattach the adjustment knob.

  5. Reconnect Wiring

    Plug the wiring harness back into the potentiometer or board.

  6. Reassemble and Calibrate

    Reassemble the armrest console and reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, enter the tractor's diagnostic/calibration menu, and perform the Armrest/Hitch calibration routine so the ARM controller can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.

  7. Clear Codes

    Clear fault code 9041 from the system and test the rear hitch drop rate functionality.
