Case IH 9061 – PTO Controller: PTO Shaft Speed Sensor and PTO Shaft Size Sensor Connections Swapped
Issue description
The electrical connections for the PTO Shaft Speed Sensor and the PTO Shaft Size Sensor (PTO Dual Speed Sensor) have been physically swapped. The controller is receiving the shaft speed frequency on the shaft size sensor circuit, and vice versa, causing a configuration mismatch.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness at the top rear of the transmission/PTO housing where the sensors are located.
Positively identify individual connectors by checking wire numbers and colors (Connector C145 belongs to the PTO Shaft Speed Sensor, Connector C146 belongs to the PTO Dual Speed/Shaft Size Sensor).
Check continuity from Pin 10 of the PTO controller connector (C056) to Pin A of connector C145.
Check continuity from Pin 12 of connector C056 to Pin A of connector C146.
Check continuity from Pin B of connectors C145 and C336 to the chassis ground.
Test the function of the speed sensor and shaft size sensor (each should have a resistance of approximately 3 K ohms).
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor engine and remove the key.
Locate the PTO Shaft Speed Sensor and the PTO Shaft Size Sensor at the top rear of the transmission.
Disconnect the swapped electrical connectors from both sensors.
Re-route and plug Connector C145 into the PTO Shaft Speed Sensor.
Re-route and plug Connector C146 into the PTO Shaft Size Sensor (Dual Speed Sensor).
Clear the fault codes from the PTO controller memory.
Start the tractor and engage the PTO to verify that fault code 9061 does not return and that the PTO operates correctly.
