Case IH 9061 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch 40bar accumulator solenoid open circuit / short circuit to ground

The system has detected an electrical fault in the circuit that controls the 40-bar accumulator solenoid for the front hitch. This can be an open circuit (broken wire, disconnected plug, or burned-out internal solenoid coil) or a short circuit to ground (power wire touching the tractor's metal chassis or an internally shorted coil).

   Check battery and UCM voltage (verify the battery is resting at ~12.6V and charging at ~13.5V+)

   Inspect the wiring harness from the UCM to the front hitch control valve block for chafing, pinched wires, or bare spots touching the tractor frame

   Unplug the connector at the 40-bar accumulator solenoid and inspect for water ingress, dirt, or bent/corroded pins

   Test the solenoid coil resistance using a digital multimeter across the two pins (infinite/OL confirms open circuit, 0 Ohms confirms internal short, 5-15 Ohms is normal spec)

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the front hitch completely to the ground to remove mechanical load, and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

   Relieve Hydraulic Pressure

   Actuate the front hitch hydraulic remotes to bleed off any residual pressure in the accumulator lines before servicing the valve block.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the front hitch hydraulic control block (usually mounted near the front axle support or front rails) and identify the 40-bar accumulator solenoid valve.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken or shorted wire, cut out the damaged section and splice in new wire using weather-sealed (heat-shrink) butt connectors.

   Replace the Solenoid/Coil

   Disconnect the electrical plug. Remove the retaining nut at the top of the solenoid cartridge. Slide the old 12V coil off the valve stem. (If the cartridge valve itself is leaking or damaged, unthread the entire cartridge from the block and install a new one). Slide the new coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut.

   Reassembly and Testing

   Reconnect the wiring harness. Turn on the battery power, start the tractor, and use the cab display to clear the UCM fault codes. Test the front hitch raise/lower and suspension functions to ensure the code does not return.
