Case IH 9062 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch single/double acting solenoid 1 open circuit / short circuit to ground

The control module has detected an electrical fault in the circuit responsible for actuating the front hitch's primary directional solenoid (open circuit or short circuit to ground). As a result, the front hitch will likely be disabled, fail to lift/lower, or default to a safe state.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the front hitch valve block back to the UCM for pinched wires, chafing against the frame, or damage from debris.

   Disconnect the harness at 'Solenoid 1' on the front hitch valve and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back terminals.

   Measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil using a multimeter (expected: 5 to 15 ohms). 'OL' indicates an open coil; 0 ohms indicates an internally shorted coil.

   Perform a harness short-to-ground test: with the solenoid and UCM disconnected, measure continuity between the solenoid signal wire and the tractor chassis.

   Perform a harness continuity test: measure the resistance of the wires from the UCM connector to the solenoid connector to ensure there are no breaks in the harness.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic tests revealed a chafed or broken wire, cut out the damaged section. Solder and use heat-shrink tubing to splice in a new section of wire, or replace the affected harness sub-assembly.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, locate Solenoid 1 on the front hitch hydraulic valve block. Remove the retaining nut holding the electromagnetic coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off the cartridge. (If the cartridge itself is leaking or sticking, unthread the cartridge from the valve block and replace the entire assembly). Slide the new coil onto the cartridge and tighten the retaining nut to the OEM torque specification.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reconnect the solenoid electrical connector. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the key to the ON position. Use the tractor's display monitor or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive 9062 fault code from the UCM.

   Operational Check

   Start the tractor and actuate the front hitch through its single and double-acting ranges to verify proper operation.
