Case IH 9067 - UCM – UCM: Short circuit to 12V on the Front hitch single/double acting solenoid 1 circuit
Issue description
The control circuit for this specific hydraulic solenoid is receiving continuous battery voltage (12V) when it should not be. This is typically caused by a wiring harness chafing against a power source, an internal short within the solenoid coil itself, or a failure within the control module keeping the circuit energized.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Magnum Series
- Puma Series
- Maxxum Series
- Steiger Series
Check the cause
Inspect connectors at the UCM and the front hitch solenoid for swapped connections, oxidation, moisture, or bent pins.
Disconnect the wiring harness at the front hitch solenoid 1 and use a multimeter to check for 12V on the control wire with the circuit commanded off. If 12V is still present, the short is in the wiring harness. If the 12V disappears, the solenoid is internally shorted.
Inspect the wiring harness routing for pinch points or chafing against the chassis that could expose the wire to a 12V source.
Repair steps
Relieve Hydraulic Pressure
Before disconnecting any hydraulic components or pipelines, verify that all pressure has been released. Take all necessary precautions to bleed and drain residual pressure to prevent injury.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the harness, locate the damaged section of the wire. Repair the wire using approved OEM splicing methods and protect it from future chafing. Do not alter the overall length of the wires.
Replace Solenoid
If the solenoid is internally shorted, remove the retaining nut/bolt on the solenoid coil. Slide the old coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge and install the new one.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect all electrical connectors. Ensure they are seated properly to prevent oxidation.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Turn the key on, clear the UCM fault codes, and test the front hitch operation. A front hitch calibration procedure may be required after replacing electrical components.
Parts you might need
(2)Front Hitch Proportional Solenoid Valve / Coil
Solenoid part numbers vary heavily depending on whether the tractor has a standard front hitch or a front hitch with PTO and position management. Reference the specific tractor's PIN in the CNH parts catalog.
UCM (Universal Control Module)
Only if the module itself is internally shorted and cannot be repaired.
