9099

Case IH 9099 – Front Hitch Controller or Vehicle Electronic Control Unit (VECU) / ICU3: Front hitch management option not enabled.

Issue description

This condition occurs when the tractor's electronic system receives an input or command related to the front hitch (such as a signal from a fender switch, position potentiometer, or command arm switch), but the front hitch management software feature is currently disabled or not configured in the tractor's memory (EEPROM).

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH Puma Series (e.g., Puma 210)
  • Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify Equipment: Determine if the tractor is actually physically equipped with a front hitch.

  2. If Equipped (Software configuration loss): Check the controller's configuration via the 'H Menu' as the feature may have been accidentally disabled.

  3. If NOT Equipped (False signal cause): Inspect the wiring harness for shorts to power/ground, check for a faulty command arm raise/work switch, or a shorted blanking plug where the front hitch fender switches would normally connect.

Repair steps

  1. Locate the main diagnostic connector in the cab.

It is typically located on the right-hand side rear pillar behind the operator's seat.

  2. Connect the CNH Special Tool (Diagnostic Jumper Connector) to the diagnostic port.

  3. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  4. Look at the dot matrix display on the right-hand 'A' pillar.

It will show "HH MENU" to indicate that the diagnostic mode has been activated.

  5. Use the "up" and "down" arrow keys to navigate through the list of two-letter controller identifier codes.

  6. Once you locate the Front Hitch Controller / ICU3, depress the "menu" key to select it.

  7. Navigate to the configuration sub-system and change the front hitch management option from "Disabled" to "Enabled".

The system will store this in the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM).

  8. Turn the key switch OFF, remove the diagnostic tool, and restart the tractor to verify the fault code has cleared.

(Note: If the tractor does not have a front hitch, do not enable the software. Instead, locate and replace the shorted switch or wiring harness causing the false input).
