Case IH 9302 – Hitch Controller or Armrest Controller: Raise Valve calibration value is too low (valve problem)

During the hitch calibration process, the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) threshold required to start raising the hitch is below the acceptable limit (4%). If the controller detects hitch movement (via the position potentiometer) before the PWM signal reaches this minimum limit, it triggers this fault.

   Check battery and alternator output voltage (must be less than 14.7 volts DC, as high voltage can skew PWM calibration)

   Test the hitch raise solenoid coil (C151) for low resistance

   Inspect the hitch raise valve mechanically for a broken centering spring, a loose spool, or a spool that is physically stuck open

   Verify Voltage

   Measure the system voltage with the tractor running. If it exceeds 14.7V, diagnose and repair the alternator/charging system first.

   Test the Coil

   Disconnect the harness to the hitch raise solenoid and measure the resistance across the coil pins with a multimeter. If the resistance is out of specification (too low), the coil is faulty.

   Inspect the Valve Spool

   If the coil tests fine, remove the raise valve solenoid coil and the coil core tube from the valve block.

   Check for Binding

   Manually inspect the valve spool. If the spool is stuck open, moves too loosely, or if the internal centering spring is broken, the valve itself has failed.

   Replace Components

   Replace the faulty solenoid coil or the entire hitch raise valve assembly as dictated by your findings.

   Recalibrate

   After replacing the parts, you must re-run the Hitch Controller Calibration procedure to clear the code and allow the controller to learn the new valve's PWM threshold.
