Case IH 9309 – HITCH Controller (Electronic Draft Control / EDC module) or ARM (Armrest Controller): Hitch position at bottom of travel is not within specification during calibration
Issue description
This code indicates that during the electronic draft control (EDC) or hitch calibration process, the rockshaft position potentiometer is reading a voltage or physical angle at the lowest point of the hitch's travel that falls outside the expected factory parameters.

Check the cause
Inspect the rear 3-point hitch linkage for any physical obstructions, packed dirt, or mechanical binding that is preventing the hitch from dropping to its true bottom-of-travel position
Verify if the physical position of the hitch was above the upper limit dial setting when the tractor was started
Inspect the rockshaft position potentiometer linkage for freezing up or physical slippage
Verify that the upper limit potentiometer dial in the cab armrest is functioning correctly and hasn't failed
Repair steps
Clear mechanical interference
Clear any mechanical interference in the hitch linkage.
Adjust upper limit setting
In the cab, turn the hitch upper limit setting dial so it is set above the current physical hitch position, or manually lower the hitch until the upper limit setting is reached.
Restart tractor
Shut down the tractor completely, wait a few moments, and restart the engine. The fault code should clear if it was a simple limit-setting mismatch.
Inspect potentiometer linkage
If the code persists, inspect the rockshaft position potentiometer on the rear hitch. Re-secure the linkage if it has slipped.
Replace potentiometer
If the sensor is seized, physically broken, or returning out-of-range voltages, replace the Hitch Position Potentiometer.
Calibrate hitch
After replacing the sensor, you must perform a full 3-point hitch calibration cycle to map the new sensor's voltage sweep to the hitch's physical top and bottom travel limits.
