9318

Case IH 9318 – Hitch Controller (EDC) or Armrest Controller (TMF): Engine speed must be set above 1600 rpm during calibration of lower valve

Issue description

During the electronic 3-point hitch calibration process, the engine RPM dropped below the required 1600 RPM threshold when the system was attempting to calibrate the lower valve. The controller automatically aborts the process and logs this procedural error.

Applies to these machines

  • MX Magnum
  • STX Steiger
  • MX Magnum Series
  • STX Steiger Series
  • TG Series
  • Steiger Series
  • CX Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify the tractor can physically reach and maintain an engine speed above 1600 RPM

  2. Check for related fault codes such as 9321 (No engine speed signal during calibration) or 9320 (Calibration aborted due to tractor movement)

  3. Ensure the hydraulic fluid is warmed up to normal operating temperature before attempting any hitch calibration

Repair steps

  1. Secure the tractor

Park the tractor on a level surface, apply the parking brake, and ensure the tractor will not move (movement will trigger code 9320 and abort the process).

  2. Warm up hydraulic fluid

Warm the tractor's hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.

  3. Set engine speed

Using the hand throttle, set the engine speed so it is steadily maintained above 1600 RPM.

  4. Access calibration menu

Navigate to the Hitch Calibration menu on your Armrest/TMF display (or enter calibration mode via the diagnostic switch/A-post, depending on your specific model year).

  5. Start calibration

    Re-initiate the hitch calibration procedure.

  6. Perform calibration steps

Follow the on-screen or service manual prompts to complete the raise and lower valve calibration steps. Do not touch the throttle or let the engine speed drop below 1600 RPM at any point during the lower valve calibration step.

  7. Save and cycle power

Once the calibration is successful, save the settings and cycle the key switch off for 30 seconds to allow the controller to store the new memory data.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Hand Throttle Potentiometer / Sensor

May be required if the tractor is physically unable to maintain the required 1600 RPM due to a hardware issue.

  • Engine Speed Sensor (Crankshaft/Camshaft position sensor)

May be required if the tractor is physically unable to maintain the required 1600 RPM due to a hardware issue.
