Case IH 9410 – EDC: Loss Of EGR Inducement Status Message From EDC

Issue description

A Controller Area Network (CAN) communication timeout or loss indicating the system is failing to receive the specific data message regarding the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) inducement status from the engine controller. This fault triggers an Amber warning light.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • Tractors and agricultural equipment utilizing FPT F5C (DOC) engines
  • Tier 3 and Tier 4a/4b engines

Check the cause

  1. Use the Service Tool to verify if the fault is currently active and check for other EGR or CAN bus fault codes.

  2. Resolve any primary EGR codes first (e.g., EGR valve stuck open/closed, position sensor mismatched), as they can trigger this inducement status loss.

  3. Trace and inspect the wiring harness and connectors from the ECU to the EGR valve for corrosion, abrasion, pinched wires, or incorrect attachment.

  4. Inspect the EGR valve to see if it is heavily soiled with soot/carbon or mechanically stuck.

Repair steps

  1. Monitor the Display

Operate the machine while monitoring the display. If the display indicates abnormal readings, proceed with physical repairs.

  2. Repair Wiring

If damage was discovered during the harness inspection, repair or replace the affected sections of the wiring harness or connectors.

  3. Clean or Replace the EGR Valve

If the EGR valve is dirty, perform a cleaning procedure. If the valve is mechanically faulty or the internal position sensor has failed, replace the EGR valve.

  4. Replace the ECU

If the wiring harness is intact and the EGR valve is functioning properly, the ECU (Engine Controller) has likely failed internally and must be replaced.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Once repairs are made, use the Service Tool to erase the fault code. Operate the machine to verify that the error has been resolved and the Amber warning light remains off.
