Case IH A-G-554 - Display – Autoguidance System: Display: Wheel Angle Sensor Error

This fault code indicates that there is a mismatch in the curvatures generated between the wheel angle sensor and the GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System). The physical steering angle reported by the sensor does not match the expected path or curvature calculated by the GPS/guidance system.

   Inspect the wheel angle sensor connection at the steering axle. Ensure the connector is fully seated and free of dirt, moisture, or corrosion.

   Trace the wiring harness from the sensor back to the main harness. The sensor typically utilizes a 3-wire setup (5-volt reference, ground, and signal wire). Check for voltage, resistance, and continuity to rule out a blown fuse or a short/break in the harness.

   Inspect the sensor's physical linkage, rod lengths, and rotary arms for damage, bending, or binding.

   Secure the Machine

   Park the machine on a level surface and shut off the engine. Warning: Always shut off the vehicle when working around the wheel angle sensor, as the steering mechanism could move suddenly and cause severe injury.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a damaged harness or connector, repair or replace the affected wiring segment.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor fails to send the correct signal, remove the mounting hardware (typically a retaining ring or slotted hex screws) and disconnect the sensor arm. Install the new sensor and reconnect the linkage. Note for Flagship Combines: On certain combine models (like the 7120), the factory wheel angle sensor is built internally into the steering cylinder. If this internal sensor fails, the official repair often requires replacing the entire steering cylinder, though some technicians retrofit an external sensor using a rod connected to the tie rod.

   Calibrate

   After replacing the sensor or repairing the linkage, you must perform a wheel angle sensor calibration through the AFS Pro 1200 display so the GNSS system can relearn the center, left, and right steering limits.

   Clear Code

   Restart the vehicle to clear the A-G-554 code and verify that autoguidance engages properly.
