A-G-605 - Display

Case IH A-G-605 - Display – NavController (Nav II or Nav III): Guidance Disabled

Issue description

The tractor's Autoguidance system has been disabled and cannot engage automatic steering. This is a critical system fault that prevents the Advanced Farming Systems (AFS) from taking control of the steering isolation valve, usually due to a communication loss, a safety lockout, or a sensor mismatch.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • STEIGER AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the roading switch to ensure the tractor is in the 'Field' position, as road mode automatically disables autoguidance.

  2. Check for sub-faults by scrolling through the Status Tabs on the AFS display to the 'AP' (Autopilot) or Diagnostics tab to look for underlying CAN isolation valve faults (such as 112 or 113).

  3. Inspect the RS232 and CAN lines between the GPS receiver (e.g., AFS 262 or 372) and the NavController for proper routing, bent pins, or broken wires.

  4. Inspect the steering lockout solenoids and the auto-guidance isolation valve for damaged wiring or shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Read and Clear Inactive Faults

Access the 'Toolbox' or 'Diagnostics' screen on the Pro 700/1200 display. Attempt to clear the fault. If it clears, it was an inactive glitch. If it remains, the fault is active.

  2. Perform a Hard Reset

Do a complete shutdown of the tractor. Turn off the battery disconnect to cycle power to the NavController and GPS receiver, which can clear temporary configuration failures.

  3. Test the Isolation Valve

Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the steering isolation valve solenoids. If the circuit is open or shorted to ground, repair the wiring harness or replace the solenoid.

  4. Update Firmware

Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Ensure that the latest software/firmware is loaded onto both the NavController and the AFS Display, as firmware mismatches can cause the system to disable guidance.

  5. Recalibrate

If a component was replaced or firmware was updated, perform a steering calibration through the AFS display to re-enable guidance.
