A-G-606 - Display

Case IH A-G-606 - Display – AFS Display / Instrumentation ECU: Guidance Communication Error

Issue description

The main AFS display has lost CAN bus communication with the autoguidance components, meaning it is no longer receiving data from the Navigation Controller or the GPS Receiver.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • STEIGER AFS Connect
  • Magnum series tractors
  • Steiger series tractors
  • Quadtrac series tractors
  • Puma series tractors
  • Axial-Flow series combines (Flagship models)
  • Patriot series sprayers

Check the cause

  1. Power cycle the machine to see if the modules re-establish communication

  2. Inspect the fuse panel for any blown fuses related to the GPS, Nav Controller, or ISOBUS/CAN network

  3. Inspect the wiring harness running from the cab display to the Nav Controller and up to the GPS receiver for pinched wires, rodent damage, or loose connections

  4. Disconnect the Deutsch connectors at the Nav Controller and GPS receiver to inspect for pushed-back pins, bent pins, or green corrosion

  5. Ensure the Nav Controller is receiving proper voltage (12V) and has a clean chassis ground

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the ignition and engage the battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Clean Connections

If corrosion is found in the connectors, clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

  3. Repair Wiring

If the CAN bus harness is damaged, splice and repair the wires using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors, or replace the damaged harness section entirely.

  4. Replace Faulty Module

If wiring and power are verified as good but the error persists, the Nav Controller or GPS receiver has likely suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.

  5. Re-calibrate

If a new Nav Controller or GPS receiver is installed, you must use the AFS display (Toolbox > GPS) to re-select the receiver type, enter any necessary RTX/RTK unlock codes, and perform a seasonal calibration.

  6. Clear Codes

Clear the fault codes in the display and test the AccuGuide system in the field to verify operation.
