Case IH A-G-705 - Display – Auto Guidance (AG) Controller: Calibrate Steering Dead Zone
Issue description
System alert indicating that the Auto Guidance (A-G) system requires a calibration of the steering dead zone (deadband). This code typically appears after a system reset, a software update, or if a steering component has been replaced.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- STEIGER AFS Connect
- Magnum series
- Puma series
- Steiger / Quadtrac series
- Mid-Range Common Cab Combines
Check the cause
Ensure hydraulic fluid is at normal operating temperature (cold oil will cause calibration to fail or result in weaving)
Verify the machine is on a flat, hard surface such as a gravel road, firm dirt, or hay field (do not calibrate on pavement or deep mud)
Check for and clear any active GPS faults (RTK/RTX must be converged/fixed) and steering sensor faults (e.g., A-G-700 Wheel Angle Sensor fault)
Ensure machine weight configuration matches normal operation (calibrate with front loader on if normally used, or off if not)
Repair steps
Warm up system
Warm up the engine and hydraulic system thoroughly.
Navigate to Calibration
On the AFS display, navigate to the TOOLBOX > CALIBRATION (or CALIBR) section.
Select Calibration
Select Automated Steering Dead Zone.
Drive forward
Center the steering on the tractor and drive forward in first gear at maximum engine RPM. A speed of at least 1.2 mph (2.2 kph) is recommended.
Perform coarse right-side test
Tap Test Right on the display and continue moving forward while the system performs a coarse right-side test.
Perform coarse left-side test
When finished, center the steering again, drive forward for 5 seconds, and tap Test Left for the coarse left-side test.
Perform fine calibrations
Continue driving ahead slowly and tap Test Right, then Test Left again. The system will now perform the fine calibrations.
Repeat fine calibrations
Repeat the right and left-hand fine calibrations a minimum of three (3) times until there is a change of less than 0.5 in each of the deadzone values.
Save settings
Tap the green check mark (or the Save icon) to accept and store the new settings. The A-G-705 code will clear automatically.
