ARM12081

Case IH ARM12081 – Armrest: Loss of Performance Monitor Display - RECORD/PLAY Functionality Disabled

Issue description

The armrest controller has lost its data link with the Performance Monitor Display (typically located in the A-post/corner post). This disables functions managed or displayed through the monitor, such as the RECORD/PLAY functionality, indicating a failure in the system responsible for displaying and managing performance data. When this communication is lost, the tractor may enter a fail-safe mode, which can result in the engine returning to idle and the transmission and throttle becoming unresponsive. The underlying condition is typically a failure in the electrical circuit connecting the monitor, a power or ground supply issue, or an internal failure of the monitor itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MX180
  • MX200
  • MX210
  • MX220
  • MX230
  • MX240
  • MX255
  • MX270
  • MX285
  • STX Steiger Series (Generation I)

Check the cause

  1. Check for power and blown fuses related to the instrument cluster or cab controller, including inline fuses under the dash

  2. Inspect and clean all relevant ground points and ensure the main connector to the performance monitor (C062) is securely plugged in

  3. Check cab power relays (solenoids) located behind the operator's seat for failure or overheating (e.g., melted rubber boots)

  4. Inspect CAN Bus terminator resistors (often located near the air filter and at the rear of the tractor) for faults disrupting communication

  5. Assess display symptoms: a completely blank screen indicates power loss or complete internal failure, while an erratic or dim display points to internal monitor failure

Repair steps

  1. Perform electrical diagnostics

Complete checks of fuses, grounds, relays, and CAN terminators to rule out simple electrical and communication faults before condemning the monitor.

  2. Remove performance monitor

If electrical diagnostics point to the monitor itself, remove the unit from the A-post (corner post).

  3. Repair or replace monitor

Send the unit to a specialized third-party repair service (e.g., for LCD or circuit board repair) as a cost-effective option, or replace it with a new, remanufactured, or secondhand unit.

  4. Program replacement monitor

If replacing the unit, install any required adapter harnesses and have the dealer program the new unit to ensure correct functionality.
