Case IH CP – Transmission Control Module (TCM): Clutch Pedal required

A safety and operational lockout code indicating that the transmission controller has disabled the transmission. The system requires the operator to fully depress the clutch (inching) pedal to complete a shift, shuttle command, or to reset the transmission after a safety interlock was triggered.

   Verify if the FNRP lever was moved without pressing the inching/clutch pedal, or if the operator lifted off the seat while the tractor was in gear.

   If the CP code appears while shuttle shifting and the operator is seated, check the operator presence (seat) switch by verifying 12V is passing through the switch to the controller with the key ON.

   Inspect the clutch pedal linkage to ensure it is not sticking or broken, and check for accompanying fault codes (like 2011 or 2012) indicating potentiometer signal issues.

   Inspect the wiring harness under the dash to see if the steering shaft or operator boots have chafed or damaged the clutch pedal switch/potentiometer wires.

   Check for secondary faults, such as a loss of speed or pressure (e.g., wheel speed sensor faults or clutch slippage codes), as the CP code is often a secondary self-reset request triggered by another transmission fault.

   Cycle the Controls

   Move the FNRP lever to Park or Neutral, press the clutch (inching) pedal completely to the floor, and then select the desired direction of travel. If the code clears and the tractor drives, it was likely an operator error or a temporary safety lockout.

   Clean the Sensor Contacts

   If the code is intermittent, locate the clutch pedal switch/potentiometer at the base of the clutch pedal. Apply electrical contact cleaner to the switch connections, as dust and debris commonly cause false readings.

   Replace the Seat Switch

   If the seat switch failed the diagnostic voltage test, disconnect the harness under the seat, unbolt the faulty operator presence switch, and install a new one.

   Replace the Clutch Potentiometer

   If the clutch pedal sensor is faulty, sticking, or throwing high/low voltage codes, disconnect its wiring harness, remove the mounting hardware, and install a new clutch position sensor.

   Calibrate the Transmission

   After replacing transmission sensors, perform a transmission and clutch calibration routine. This usually requires the tractor to be at operating temperature and is done using the dashboard H-menus or a dealer diagnostic tool.

   Software Update

   If the mechanical and electrical components test fine but the tractor randomly drops into neutral and displays "CP", contact a dealer to flash the Transmission Control Module with the latest software update, which resolves known bugs in some Maxxum/Puma models.
