Case IH EHR4313 – EHR: Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Cannot be Brought Back to Neutral
Issue description
The control system has detected that the spool within the number six rear remote hydraulic valve has failed to return to its neutral (centered) position after a command to do so. This suggests a mechanical or electrical failure is preventing the spool from physically centering, which can lead to unintended hydraulic flow and prevent other hydraulic functions from operating correctly.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the number six remote valve for damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Check the hydraulic fluid level and condition, as contaminated or low fluid can cause hydraulic issues.
Inspect the remote valve assembly for any visible damage or leaks.
Attempt to operate the number six remote valve and observe if the issue is intermittent or persistent.
Swap to a different remote valve to temporarily work around the issue and confirm the fault is isolated to the number six valve circuit.
Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read all active and stored fault codes for further isolation.
Perform a pressure test using a low-pressure gauge connected to the case drain port while actuating remotes to check for internal leakage in the valve cartridges.
Test the solenoid's resistance and the position sensor's voltage output using the EST or a multimeter.
Repair steps
Isolate and access the valve
Ensure the hydraulic system is depressurized by cycling the remote levers. Identify and access the number six remote valve assembly on the rear of the tractor. It may be necessary to remove the rear wheel for better access.
Clean the area
Thoroughly clean the valve assembly and surrounding area to prevent contamination of the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Replace solenoid or pilot head
If diagnostics point to an electrical failure, unbolt the faulty solenoid (pilot head) from the valve body and replace it.
Service spool and seals
If the issue is mechanical (sticking spool or failed seals), disassemble the valve. Remove the detent housing or the entire valve slice from the stack. Carefully note the order and orientation of all components, including springs, balls, and seals.
Reassemble and test
Lubricate all new seals and O-rings with clean hydraulic fluid. Reassemble the valve, ensuring all components are correctly installed and torqued to manufacturer specifications. Reconnect all electrical and hydraulic lines, start the tractor, allow it to warm up, and test the function for leaks.
Clear codes and calibrate
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and verify EHR4313 does not return. Perform a calibration of the remote valves using the tractor's display interface or the EST.
