Case IH F-102-17 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU Plausibility Check for air pressure at the upstream of intake valve sensor

Issue description

The engine's turbo boost pressure plausibility check has detected that the actual intake manifold pressure (boost pressure) is lower than the expected set-point value calculated by the engine control system.

Check the cause

  1. Use a diagnostic scan tool to compare the actual intake manifold pressure values with the ECU's set-point values

  2. Verify the actual intake manifold pressure using a separate mechanical vacuum/boost manometer to confirm if the deviation is real

  3. If the mechanical gauge confirms low boost pressure (genuine pressure loss): Inspect the charge air cooler, turbocharger hoses, and clamps for splits or loose connections

  4. If the mechanical gauge shows normal pressure (electrical/sensor issue): Inspect the Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) sensor for heavy soot or carbon buildup, and check its electrical lines and 4-pin connector for shorts, corrosion, or open circuits

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery

    Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the sensor

    Locate the intake air pressure/temperature sensor on the engine inlet manifold.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness

    Disconnect the 4-pin electrical wiring harness from the sensor.

  4. Remove the faulty sensor

    Remove the faulty sensor from the intake manifold.

  5. Install the new replacement sensor

    Install the new replacement sensor. Ensure the integrated O-ring is properly seated to avoid creating a new boost leak and to keep out contaminants.

  6. Reconnect the electrical harness

    Reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Reconnect the battery and clear the fault code

    Reconnect the battery, clear the F-102-17 fault code using a diagnostic scan tool, and test drive the machine under load to verify that the expected boost pressure is achieved and the code does not return.
