Case IH F-103-08 - ECU – Engine ECU: Turbo charger speed signal period has exceeded a limit.
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is receiving an erratic, delayed, or implausible signal from the turbocharger speed sensor. The period between the magnetic pulses generated by the compressor wheel blades passing the sensor tip has exceeded the programmed limit, indicating a failing sensor, compromised wiring, or a turbocharger that is physically not spinning as expected.

Check the cause
Inspect the 3-pin electrical connector at the turbocharger speed sensor for pushed-back pins, corrosion, or moisture
Trace the wiring harness from the turbo speed sensor back to the Engine ECU and test for open circuits, high resistance, or a short to ground/power
Verify that the speed sensor is securely seated in the turbocharger compressor housing (if backed out, the air gap will be too large to read the blades)
Remove the intake piping and inspect the turbocharger compressor wheel for chipped or bent blades, heavy soot/oil, and excessive shaft play
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the turbo speed sensor, which is mounted directly into the side of the turbocharger compressor housing.
Disconnect
Depress the locking tab and disconnect the 3-pin wiring harness connector from the sensor.
Removal
Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor to the housing. Carefully twist and pull the sensor straight out. Note: Inspect the tip of the old sensor. If it is physically smashed, the turbocharger has catastrophic bearing failure and the entire turbo must be replaced.
Installation
Lubricate the O-ring on the new speed sensor with a small amount of clean engine oil. Insert the new sensor fully into the housing until it seats flush.
Secure
Install and tighten the retaining bolt to OEM torque specifications (typically snug, do not overtighten as the housing is aluminum).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in until it clicks.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic scan tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the F-103-08 fault code. Run the engine and verify the turbo speed data parameter is reading correctly.
