F-1043-21 - ECU

Case IH F-1043-21 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / ECM (A-095): 12V sensor supply 1 voltage is too low

Issue description

The control module monitors the 12-volt sensor supply circuits and has detected that the voltage on "Supply 1" has dropped below the normal operating threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, an internal electrical failure (short) within one of the connected 12V sensors, or an internal hardware failure within the control module itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180 through 380
  • Puma 130 through 240
  • Steiger / Quadtrac 350 through 620
  • 240 Series Combines
  • Axial-Flow 7240
  • Axial-Flow 8240
  • Axial-Flow 9240

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply or jump-starter. If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

  2. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault is currently active or intermittent.

  3. Check the wiring harness for correct voltage supply to the connected sensors and inspect for any chafing or shorts to ground.

Repair steps

  1. Inspect the Harness

Trace the wiring harness from the ECU (A-095) to the sensors powered by the 12V Supply 1 circuit. Look for pinched wires, exposed copper, or moisture in the connectors.

  2. Isolate the Sensors

Disconnect the sensors on the 12V Supply 1 circuit one at a time. Check the voltage at the ECU after each disconnection. If the voltage returns to normal (12V) after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor has an internal short and must be replaced.

  3. Test the ECU

If the wiring harness has full electrical integrity (no shorts to ground) and all connected sensors test good, the fault lies within the ECU itself (internal 12V supply failure).

  4. Module Replacement

If the ECU is deemed faulty, attempt to reinstall/flash the A-095 ECU software. If the ECU cannot be recovered or the hardware is damaged, remove and replace the A-095 Engine Control Unit.
