F-107-16 - ECU

Case IH F-107-16 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air filter clog or circuit failure present for a long time

Issue description

The system has detected an extended period where the air filter restriction switch is indicating a severe vacuum/clog in the air intake, or there is an electrical fault (such as an open or shorted wire) in the sensor's circuit. Because this condition risks engine starvation or dust ingestion, the system will often trigger an engine protection mode, automatically reducing the engine to low idle speed and causing a loss of power.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors (e.g., MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
  • Case IH Steiger Tractors
  • Various other Case IH and New Holland Tier 3 / Tier 4 equipment utilizing the same Engine Control Module

Check the cause

  1. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the fault is currently present and active

  2. Check the physical condition of the primary and secondary air filters (a genuinely clogged filter is the most common failure mode)

  3. Inspect the air filter clogging switch (S-022) and its associated wiring harness for damage, chafing, or disconnected plugs

  4. Verify if there is a software issue (designated as A-095 in some manuals) causing a false trip

Repair steps

  1. Access the Air Cleaner

Turn off the machine and open the engine compartment to access the air intake housing.

  2. Filter Replacement

Remove the primary and secondary air filters. If they are heavily soiled or clogged with debris, replace them. (Do not attempt to blow out heavily clogged filters, as this can damage the media).

  3. Wiring Inspection

If the filters are clean, trace the wiring from the air filter restriction switch back to the ECU. Look for broken wires or corroded connector pins. Repair any harness damage found.

  4. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring is intact but the code persists, the restriction switch itself has likely failed internally. Remove the old switch from the intake housing and install a new one.

  5. Clear Codes and Test

Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST), clear the inactive fault codes, and start the engine. Run the machine at high idle to ensure the code does not return and the engine no longer derates.
