Case IH F-1072-04 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM): Engine (Compression) Brake Output #1 / Engine Brake Actuator Driver 1 Circuit - Voltage Below Normal, or Shorted to Low Source

The control module has detected low voltage on the engine brake solenoid number 1 signal circuit, indicating that the circuit is shorted to ground. When this fault is active, the engine brake on the affected cylinders cannot be activated, or the exhaust brake will not operate.

   Inspect the engine harness, connectors, and engine brake solenoids for a short circuit to ground.

   Locate the 2-pin Weather Pack connector near the number 3 injector pass-through connector at the back of the engine.

   Inspect the jumper harness running from this connector to the engine brake pass-through connectors on the rocker lever housing.

   Check the engine brake solenoid coil and cable connections for internal shorting.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Solenoids

   Remove the valve cover to access the engine brake solenoids located underneath.

   Trace the Circuit

   Trace the engine brake solenoid number 1 signal circuit from the ECM to the solenoids. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched areas causing the short to ground.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short is found in the engine harness or jumper harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.

5. 5

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring tests good but the short is internal to the actuator, replace the faulty engine brake solenoid.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reinstall the valve cover, reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool, and test-operate the engine brake to ensure the fault does not return.
