F-108-00 - ECU

Case IH F-108-00 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Ambient pressure sensor voltage is higher than expected.

Issue description

The ambient (barometric) air pressure sensor is reporting a voltage signal above the maximum calibrated threshold, typically indicating an internal hardware defect on the circuit board.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum series
  • Steiger
  • Maxxum
  • Workmaster
  • AFX series
  • AFX8010
  • N-Series TLBs
  • Case 580 Super N

Check the cause

  1. Save the error log, clear the fault code, and restart the ECU/machine to see if the fault returns (ruling out a temporary glitch).

  2. Inspect the main ECU wiring harness connectors (e.g., X-9102) for moisture, corrosion, or damaged pins. Water intrusion can short the 5V reference supply shared by the internal sensor.

  3. Check external 5V sensors (like the boost or oil pressure sensor) for a dead short, which can sometimes spike the internal voltage reading. Verify no other 5V sensor fault codes are active.

Repair steps

  1. Assess operational impact

Determine if ECU replacement is necessary. Replacement is required if the machine operates at high altitudes or utilizes a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), as the engine relies on this sensor for altitude fuel compensation and turbo boost mapping.

  2. Disconnect power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery ground cable.

  3. Remove the ECU

Disconnect the main wiring harnesses from the Engine ECU and unbolt the module from the engine block or firewall mounting bracket.

  4. Install the new ECU

Mount the replacement ECU and reconnect the harnesses.

  5. Program the ECU

A certified technician must use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to flash the correct engine software/firmware based on the machine's Product Identification Number (PIN) and perform injector trim calibrations.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Varies by exact machine model and engine. Look up using the machine's specific serial number/PIN. The internal sensor cannot be replaced separately.
