Case IH F-1136-01 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU temperature sensor voltage is lower than expected

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) contains an internal temperature sensor to monitor its own circuit board temperature and prevent overheating. This fault code triggers when the voltage signal from this internal sensor drops below the minimum expected threshold. This typically indicates an internal short to ground or a complete failure of the sensor circuit inside the ECU.

   Check ECU Power and Ground: Verify battery voltage and ground continuity at the main ECU harness connectors to ensure a bad ground or voltage drop is not skewing internal 5V reference circuits.

   Inspect Connectors: Disconnect the ECU harness connectors (typically 60-pin and 94-pin) and inspect for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could cause a voltage drop.

   Clear and Retest: Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the in-cab diagnostic display to clear the fault code. Cycle the key to see if the code returns immediately, indicating a hard internal fault.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery negative terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the ECU

   Locate the Engine ECU (usually mounted directly to the side of the engine block via isolation mounts). Remove the retaining bolts and carefully unplug the wiring harness connectors.

   Install the New ECU

   Mount the replacement ECU to the engine block, ensuring the vibration isolators are intact. Reconnect the wiring harnesses securely.

   Reconnect Power

   Reconnect the battery negative terminal.

   Programming (Dealer Required)

   Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool to flash the ECU with the correct firmware and engine calibration dataset specific to the machine's Product Identification Number (PIN).

   Verification

   Start the engine and monitor the "ECU Internal Temperature" parameter on the diagnostic tool to ensure it is reading a plausible value (e.g., ambient temperature on a cold start).
