F-1442-00 - ECU

Case IH F-1442-00 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Fuel rail pressure has exceeded maximum limit

Issue description

This code indicates that the fuel rail pressure sensor has detected a pressure level in the common rail that exceeds the maximum allowable safety limit. Specifically, the system triggers this fault if the pressure spikes above 2000 bar (29,000 psi) for more than 1000 milliseconds.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Puma series
  • Magnum series (245, 275, 305, 335, MX215-MX305)
  • Steiger series (280, 330, 335, STX280, STX330)
  • Farmall series (90C through 120U)
  • Maxxum series (110, 115, 125, 140)
  • 240 Series Combines
  • Case IH 9900 Sugar Cane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Check if the tractor's battery is connected to an external power supply (jump box or charger), as voltage irregularities can cause sensor misreads

  2. Perform a low-pressure system test to verify fuel supply pressure between the fuel filter and high-pressure pump inlet is at least 5 bar (72 psi)

  3. Inspect the fuel rail pressure sensor (B-015) and wiring harness (connectors X833 / X213) for open circuits, shorts to ground, or shorts to battery

  4. Use a diagnostic tool to monitor the rail pressure sensor signal; a reading >2000 bar while the engine is off or idling indicates a failed sensor

Repair steps

  1. Clear and retest

Disconnect any external power sources, clear the fault code from the ECU, and cycle the key. If the code returns immediately without the engine running, the issue is electrical (sensor or wiring).

  2. Inspect the harness

Disconnect the fuel rail pressure sensor. Check the connector pins for corrosion or pushed-back pins. Test the wiring continuity back to the ECU. Repair any damaged wiring.

  3. Replace the sensor

If the wiring is intact but the sensor is providing an out-of-range signal (or if it has internally shorted), relieve the fuel system pressure and replace the fuel rail pressure sensor on the common rail.

  4. Inspect the fuel metering unit

If the sensor is functioning correctly and the system is actually over-pressurizing, the fault lies with the fuel metering unit (MeUn) on the high-pressure pump or a stuck fuel pressure relief valve. Inspect and replace the metering unit if it is failing to regulate fuel flow into the rail.

  5. Final verification

Bleed the fuel system if necessary, start the engine, and verify via the diagnostic tool that the fuel rail pressure tracks the commanded pressure without exceeding the maximum limit.
