Case IH F-152-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - Software resets in DSM 0
Issue description
The engine's control module has experienced an unexpected software reset or internal calibration error, typically triggered by electronic disturbances, configuration problems, or a physical hardware defect within the ECU itself.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
- Case IH N-Series Loader Backhoes
- Komatsu WB93R-8/WB97R-8 series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness, battery voltage, and grounds for issues that could cause voltage spikes or drops, leading to a software reset
Use a diagnostic tester to read out the label HWEMon_numRecovery and compare the value with the corresponding diagnostic table to see exactly what triggered the recovery mode
Check if the fault is a temporary SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) communication error. If the ECM functions correctly after a recovery cycle, it may have been a temporary glitch
Repair steps
Clear the Fault Memory
Delete the fault code using a diagnostic tool. If the engine functions correctly afterward and the code does not return, it was a temporary SPI error and can be ignored.
Reprogram the ECU
If the error occurs repeatedly, the configuration or software may be corrupted. Reprogram/flash the EDC (Engine Control Unit) with the latest software.
Replace the ECU
If the error remains after reprogramming, or if a permanent SPI error is present and the ECM is stuck in the boot block, the internal hardware is defective. You must replace the EDC/ECU.
