Case IH F-1569-14 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Strong torque limitation from engine protection active
Issue description
This is a consequential (secondary) fault code. It means the engine control system has intentionally reduced engine power (torque derate) to protect the engine from catastrophic damage because another critical parameter has exceeded its safe operating limit.

Check the cause
Scan for Primary Fault Codes: Use a diagnostic tool to read all active codes. Look for codes related to temperature sensors, oil pressure, or the aftertreatment system (SCR/DPF).
Check Fluid Levels: Manually verify engine oil, engine coolant, and DEF (AdBlue) levels.
Inspect the Cooling Package: Check the radiator, intercooler, and cooling fans for physical blockages (chaff, dirt, or debris) that could cause an overheat condition.
Monitor Live Data: View live ECU parameters for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and intake manifold temperature to see which sensor is reporting an out-of-bounds condition.
Check Aftertreatment Status: Check the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) soot load and ensure the DEF system is dosing correctly.
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Equipment
Plug a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or Jaltest) into the machine's diagnostic port.
Identify the Root Cause
Read the fault codes. Ignore F-1569-14 for now and focus entirely on the other active codes (e.g., a code for "Coolant Temperature Too High" or "DPF Restriction").
Perform the Primary Repair
Troubleshoot and repair the root cause. This could involve cleaning the radiator, replacing a faulty temperature/pressure sensor, fixing a coolant leak, or refilling the DEF tank.
Perform a Forced Regeneration (If Applicable)
If the primary fault was caused by DPF soot buildup, use the diagnostic software to initiate a forced DPF regeneration. Ensure safety protocols (parking brake engaged, proper coolant temp) are met before starting the burn.
Clear Fault Codes
Once the primary issue is repaired, use the diagnostic tool to clear the codes. The F-1569-14 torque derate code cannot be cleared manually; it will automatically clear or become inactive once the ECU verifies that all engine parameters are back within safe limits.
Verify Repair
Test drive or operate the machine under a working load to ensure full torque is restored and the engine protection mode does not reactivate.
