Case IH F-157-01 - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): The minimum rail pressure value necessary to allow fuel injection has not been reached

This code triggers when the Engine Control Module detects that the actual fuel rail pressure has dropped below the commanded threshold required to properly atomize and inject fuel into the cylinders. This condition typically results in a derated engine (loss of power), rough idling, or the engine stalling/failing to start.

   Verify fuel level and check for severe fuel contamination or water in the fuel

   Visually inspect all low-pressure and high-pressure fuel lines for wet spots, drips, cracked hoses, or loose fittings

   Check primary and secondary fuel filters and the fuel-water separator for blockages

   Test the low-pressure lift pump delivery pressure (should be 5–15 PSI) and listen for operation

   Test the fuel rail pressure sensor for proper voltage and resistance, and inspect its wiring harness for shorts or corrosion

   Perform an injector return flow (leak-off) test to check for excessive fuel bleeding back into the return system

   Check the mechanical pressure relief valve (PRV) on the fuel rail to ensure it has not failed open

   Replace Fuel Filters

   Always start by replacing both the primary and secondary fuel filters, as internal blockages are the most common cause. Ensure the fuel-water separator bowl is clean and undamaged.

   Prime the System

   After replacing filters, thoroughly prime the fuel system to purge any trapped air. Clear the codes and test run the machine.

   Repair Leaks

   If air ingress or fuel leaks were found during the visual inspection, tighten fittings or replace the damaged low-pressure hoses.

   Replace Faulty Sensors/Valves

   If electrical testing proves the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is faulty, replace it. If the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) is bleeding off pressure prematurely, replace the valve. Note: If the PRV is replaced, OEM service manuals state it is necessary to perform a 'Reset ECU Data' procedure using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) before returning the machine to service.

   Replace Injectors or High-Pressure Pump

   If the return flow test indicates excessive injector leakage, replace the faulty injectors. If all other components pass, the high-pressure fuel pump itself may have failed and requires replacement.
