F-157-02 - ECU

Case IH F-157-02 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Rail pressure sensor value is intermittent.

Issue description

The control module is receiving an erratic, unstable, or incorrect voltage signal from the common rail fuel pressure sensor (B-015).

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Steiger series (350 to 600 HP)
  • Magnum series (235–340 Series 4)
  • Puma series
  • Farmall series (95U, 105U, 115U Pro EP)
  • A8000 and A8800 Sugar Cane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Check for concurrent codes: If faults like 3110 / DTC 1225 (Rail pressure sensor value is above maximum offset) or 3811 (ECM 5-volt sensor supply 1 out of range) are active, diagnose and resolve those first.

  2. Inspect the physical mounting of the B-015 rail pressure sensor to ensure it is properly secured, as a loose sensor can cause intermittent readings.

  3. Check the battery voltage on the instrument cluster with the engine running at 2000 RPM to ensure the system is receiving stable overall power.

  4. With the ignition switch OFF, use a multimeter to check the B-015 signal circuit for continuity, broken conductors, or a short-to-high voltage source between the sensor connector and the ECM pins (e.g., X-917 connector).

Repair steps

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

  2. Locate the Common Rail Pressure Sensor (B-015) on the engine's high-pressure fuel rail.

  3. Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

  4. If the multimeter diagnostic checks revealed a short or break in the wiring harness, locate and repair the damaged conductor.

  5. If the wiring harness and connectors are in good condition but the intermittent signal persists, the sensor itself has failed internally. Remove the faulty rail pressure sensor.

  6. Install the new Common Rail Pressure Sensor and torque it to the engine manufacturer's specifications.

  7. Reconnect the wiring harness, clear the inactive fault codes from the ECM, and run the engine to verify the repair.
