Case IH F-1632-14 - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Torque limitation caused by turbo charger protection
Issue description
The engine control system has actively reduced engine power (derated the engine) to protect the turbocharger from overspeeding or overheating. This is often caused by extreme working conditions, such as operating at high altitudes or under sustained, extreme heavy loads for longer than 120 seconds, rather than a hardware failure.

Check the cause
Assess operating conditions to determine if the machine is currently operating at a high altitude or has been under a severe, sustained load
Check for accompanying codes related to the Boost Pressure Sensor, Barometric Pressure Sensor, or Intake Manifold Temperature
Inspect the engine air filter and intake piping for severe restrictions or blockages that would force the turbocharger to overwork
Inspect the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) and hoses for leaks, as a boost leak can cause the turbo to overspeed
Monitor live data using a diagnostic tool to ensure boost pressure and barometric pressure sensors are reading accurately and not drifting
Repair steps
Allow the System to Reset
Reduce the load on the machine and allow the engine to idle or operate at a low RPM for 2–3 minutes. The ECM will automatically reset the torque limitation once the boost pressure remains low for longer than 120 seconds.
Clear Restrictions
If the air filter is clogged, remove and replace both the primary and secondary engine air filters.
Fix Boost Leaks
If a leak is found in the charge air piping, tighten the clamps or replace the torn silicone boots.
Sensor Replacement (If Applicable)
If live data shows the boost pressure sensor or barometric pressure sensor is reading erratically (causing the ECM to falsely believe the turbo is in danger), replace the faulty sensor.
Clear Codes
After the cool-down period and any necessary physical corrections, cycle the key and use the diagnostic tool to clear the inactive F-1632-14 code.
