Case IH F-1648-4 – Engine Controller: ECU internal failure - 'ABE active' reported due to undervoltage detection

The engine controller's internal monitoring system has detected a critical drop in the supply voltage (undervoltage), triggering an internal reset or safe state (referred to as 'ABE active').

   Check the battery voltage, load test the batteries, and verify the alternator is charging correctly without intermittent voltage drops.

   Inspect the Engine Controller Main Relay Circuit (Terminal 30) for an early opening defect (which often triggers companion code DTC 3764).

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the EDC/ECU for corroded pins, loose connectors, or poor chassis ground connections that could cause a localized voltage drop at the module.

   Replace the Module

   Disconnect the battery, remove the wiring harness connectors from the Engine Controller, and unbolt the faulty ECU.

   Install the New Module

   Mount the replacement Engine Controller and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses. Reconnect the battery.

   Restore Parameters

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Programming

   Follow the appropriate Service Tool procedure to flash the ECU (if blank) and 'Restore Self Learning Parameters.'
